I know it’s slightly early for this, but considering how much I LOVE this holiday, this definitely did not come soon enough. Dia de los Muertos, which comes alive on November 2nd in the Mission, is a huge bloom of art, spirituality and lots of amazing stories. Translating to Day of The Dead, Dia de los Muertos is an annual celebration of All-Saints Day and families honor those in their clans who have passed on. Though it sounds like some hokey funeral you wouldn’t be caught dead at, its actually fun and quite moving. Many of these people are still preserving their traditions, despite the fact that their ancestors have lived on. And that something that I think anyone can respect.
1:AM Gallery is kicking off the festivities a little early this year with their new tribute show, Eternal Sleep. The thing I get most jazzed about is the art, so this will definitely be something to see. Put a marigold in you hair and get ready to light a candle — it just might kick your lazy ass into gear to put together that Halloween costume you’ve been avoiding.
