*If you don’t know about Berkeley’s BAM/PFA, here is bunch of the information you should know. If you are already informed, just jump to the end for info about the soirée this Friday night.

INTERIOR SHOT OF the BAM from everywheremag.com
The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA) are both rad institutions. BAM (a bizarre and spectacular concrete behemoth) hosts really diverse exhibitions and has an awesome 14,000 item permanent collection (for an art history class I stood in front of a Jackson Pollock for what felt like eternity), plus it houses a delicious raw/vegan restaurant called Café Muse. The PFA screens obscure films, old movies, and eclectic film series. They both have pretty affordable tickets, especially their $5 After 5 special. General admission to the galleries is just $5 after 5 p.m. Then show your ticket for a same-day PFA screening or gallery visit and get in FREE (admission to BAM is always FREE for BAM/PFA members and UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff), and don’t forget the FREE First Thursdays every month.

RPS COLLECTIVE ZINE MART
BAM teamed up last weekend with the Rock Paper Scissors Collective (see previous post about the rad artist collective) for a pop-up shop and ‘Zine Mart exhibit. The show will be there through Sunday, November 22nd, and it’s pretty rare that an art museum hosts an exhibit about the D.I.Y. culture, so make sure to visit!

Learning Mind: Experience into Art
And here is a perfect excuse to go: “L@te: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA.” The galleries are open until 9 pm or later on most Fridays, with DJs, live music, wine and beer from 5-7 pm in the lobby and an array of performances and programs afterwards in the galleries. This Friday, November 20th, L@te will feature a “Conversation and Book Signing: Learning Mind: Experience into Art. Jacquelynn Baas, Walter Hood, and Lawrence Rinder in Conjunction with ’Zine Mart.”
