Chinese Food, Movies and Booze for a Really Good Cause

While Stuart pointed everybody to the alternative-to-Christmas activities going on in San Francisco last night, New Yorkers have their own alternative to Christmas happening today. The long held tradition of non-Christmas celebrators ordering Chinese food and going to the movies is a great one, and the venerable 92nd Street YTribeca is making your dreams come true this year.  For $30 (which is no bargain, but hey, it’s once a year) you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat Chinese food buffet and a screening of Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. Oh, and alcohol, too.  These types of things have a huge potential to be lame but bring a friend or two and at worst, the sauce plus Mel Brooks’s sparkling, Semitic humor will be the beacon of light that your Jesus-killing souls so desperately needs.

Whether or not you believe that today’s birthday boy was the son of God,(or existed at all, for that matter) one thing is for sure-there are a lot of needy families in New York. While you are looking forward to your post-Christmas brunch tomorrow, swing by a bookstore or a toy store and pick something up for a kid who maybe didn’t have such a Merry Christmas this year.  Donations are still being accepted at all Salvation Army’s, and as an added incentive to be good to your fellow man, otherwise bourgie-noxious brunch spots Public and and Double Crown are giving away unlimited mimosas to anyone bringing an unwrapped toy or book to donate.  Chow down, pat yourself on the back and belly up to the bar.
