Brooklyn Haiti Fundraiser

People have many opinions about those “crazy kids” living in the hipster hotbed that is Bushwick. They turn dumpsters into swimming pools, try to secede, and throw riotous parties in their DIY music spaces. Cynicism aside, these kids know how to work with what they got and put together huge events seemingly overnight. When dealing with the kind of large scale tragedy that is Haiti, sometimes you don’t know where to start, but hey, every little bit helps. I bought wine the other night because it advertised that 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Haiti. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna pat myself on the back, but people contribute in their own little ways.

This Sunday night, at Castle Braid, local artists, writers, and musicians will band together for a last minute fundraiser to benefit the American Red Cross Haitian Relief Fund. There will be an open bar sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery, and numerous raffles for other local prizes. Plus Jaleel Bunton from TV on the Radio is just one of the 7 or more musicians who will be performing live. So even if you don’t normally rage on a Sunday night, I think for this, you can make an exception.
