Beer and Fitness: Heavy Metal Aerobics at Workshop

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

You could look this sharp if you worked out to HEAVY METAL.

I know Monica raved about Workshop back in October (Full Disclosure: We’re all great friends!), but I’ve never actually been to one of Kelly Malone’s DIY classes even though I live two blocks away and walk by all the time just so I can look longingly through the window at all the cool kids making beer coozies out of cosby sweaters and having ping pong tournaments. Anyway, the point is, I checked the updated schedule on their newly redesigned site and this class sounded like the perfect way to take care of two New Year’s resolutions* at once:

Heavy Metal Aerobics: get in shape to your favorite metal riffs from judas priest, metallica, maiden and more!! with over 5 years of yoga and dance experience, class leader Donnelle Malnik has combined metal, aerobics, and yoga to create a routine that will kick start your heart and improve your flexibility. and in the weight training segment, you’ll lift a six pack with those guns while we create a six pack outta that stomach! so join us at Workshop for heavy metal aerobics, and we’ll have you pulling scissor kicks from the risers that put David Lee Roth to shame!

I’m pretty sure that means you get to spend $10 to drink a six pack and watch girls dance around in tights and vintage rock and roll t-shirts. It kind of sounds like any given night at the Knockout, only even cheaper.

*In case you were wondering, those resolutions were to “workout more” and “drink more on weekdays”.

Make sure to check out Kelly’s recent profile in 7×7 Magazine!

Andrew Dalton - Aggressive Panhandler

Andrew is an East Coast transplant from Virginia hamming it up in San Francisco without any intention of leaving. Having worked every typical job from Bike Shop Employee to Bartender to Ad Agency Hotshot, to Dotcom Layoff he now busts his ass covering the "weird things to do" beat for gracious local audiences at SFAppeal.com and rallies the Western Addy/Lower Haight/Panhandle neighborhoods into action at AggressivePanhandler.com. His work was published in a real, paper magazine one time. One day he might even figure out how to make money from it.
