The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Roughly 90% of my Denny’s experiences have taken place at the Pacific Beach location in San Diego.  If you’ve spent any significant time in “America’s Finest City” you know exactly which place I’m talking about (the corner of Garnet and Mission).  When I was growing up, PB was pretty cool.  It was filled with punks, hippies, thrift stores, and the Jamaican guy who sold me pipes when I was 14.  Unfortunately now PB is filled with too many frat boys and wanna be surfers looking for fights, but at one point I loved that little beach town and spent many nights at it’s Denny’s.  I mean, when you’re 16 where else are you gonna go?

Anyway, the thing which gives this location it’s certain je ne sais quoi, is that it has a big outdoor patio.   This makes it so the only thing separating the people eating, from the drunken sidewalk madness, is a little wall of glass.  Needless to say, that patio has seen A LOT of action.  I’ve witnessed people snorting lines out there, people getting in fights, people picking up on each other, and drunkards trying to hop the glass.  While I haven’t seen it personally, I’ve heard about people having sex out there.  Whether or not that’s true, I don’t know, but I wouldn’t doubt it for a second.  Most people I know in San Diego have had some less than stellar moments at the PB Denny’s, including a 16 or 17 year old me who spent New Years Eve passed out on the bathroom floor.  I’ve never felt fully clean since.

But enough of my strange reminiscing, all you really need to know is that every Denny’s in the country is giving out FREE Grand Slam Breakfasts tomorrow (Tuesday) from 6am-2pm.  How awesome is that?  Just make sure to tip your server, because I know they’ll need it after a morning like that.  And, if you happen to go to the Denny’s in PB and Steve, the guy with the mustache, is your waiter, give him a couple extra bucks for me.  We used to drive the fucker crazy!
