Hallelujah, it has stopped raining, for now. I was out in the LES last night with Stuart and Anna and the weather dampened the Drinko de Cinco spirits. Bars were pretty barren, like Ukranian women who lived near Chernobyl. But, on my walk home in the pouring rain there was 1 beacon of Puebla pride: Vamos Taco and Tequila near Stuyvesant. The place was thumping and a drunk crowd was spilling outside. Sounds about right for a venture that also has a Murray Hill location anda name fit for a parody bar on telemundo. Maybe there was a donkey show. Whoops, should I resign because of that? Here’s your cool Wednesday, already planned for you.
5-6pm: FREE Cocktails @ The Blue Owl
196 2nd Avenue between 12th and 13th (downstairs)
Yet again, I mention the Blue Owl. Friggin sweet. Tonight they are offering their version of the Aviation: gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de violette, and fresh squeeze lemon juice.
7-8:30ishpm: FREE Dorks @ Dorkbot
@ Location One, 26 Greene Street SOHO
I would pay for dorks, and have, every time I took a hard science course in college, but Dorkbot is free (read about last time). 3 people give ~20 minute talks about things they are doing that are related to electricity. Tonight’s topics will be: “a semi intelligent solar powered mesh network, which will hopefully translate into tracking collars and techniques, for african wildlife”; “a new work which features a halogen light moving along an articulated arm inside a mesh cube and some of his earlier work”; and “a work of art about virtual friends”.
You are encouraged to bring snacks that you can share. Please, no peanuts (allergies), no chewies (stuck in braces), no crepes (will definitely spill on shirt), no chocolate (will exascerbate acne), and no sandwiches with crusts (dorks don’t like crusts).
