Drinking by Numbers at 440
I guess if you wanted to categorize 440, it could best be described as SOMA-light. It’s no Chaps II mind you, but if daddies and random acts of oral sex are too intense for you, then you may want to have your Castro Street experience elsewhere.
One incentive to drop by is its new sliding scale drink special, which is available seven days and nights a week. Whenever you wish, you may imbibe in Absolut vodka for $5, Jagermeister at $4, well vodka for $3, Miller Lite for $2, and any schnapps for $1. Some of these options seem less like a blessing and more like a curse, but you have to give them credit for their innovative, albeit gimmicky sales pitch. I just wouldn’t recommend a night of peach schnapps no matter how broke or 21 you are.
What’s more, you don’t have to brave sweat and body hair if you don’t want to because their sister bar, Trax, on Upper Haight is offering the same deal, in a more innocuous location. The only thing you have to brave there is the sturdy arsenal of regulars who can vary from very friendly to a trifle disturbing.
