I love that we have a DIY column here at Broke Ass Stuart.  Kate’s always amazing ideas have helped me save money and kept me off drugs, literally:  I smoke little to no weed when I’m making something, especially when that something involves sharp objects or glue or BOTH!

As a former Brooklyn dweller who lives with a man who sometimes brews his own beer, pickles his own onions, sometimes cures his own bacon I am regularly exposed to crafty DIY types and while I am impressed with much that they do, I sometimes find that craftystyle isn’t always my style.   Earrings made from old buttons, or curtains made from thrift store dresses aren’t really my bag.  I like Etsyt type stuff, but sometimes it looks a little…homesewn for me. I long for DIY projects that marry the practical and creative sides of DIY crafts, with the glam of high fashion, so I about just about had a happy meltdown when I  discovered PS I Made This.

Talented New Yorker Erica Domesek lives by her motto “I see it, I like it, I make it”.  She takes inspiration from runway and couture styles and finds away to re-make them using basic materials. She did a great accessories set for Refinery29.com, but her site is a gold mine off all kinds of products.  Check it out.

BAS Writers

BAS Writers is mostly a collection of articles written by people for the early days of this site. Back then nobody knew that snarky articles they were writing could come back and haunt them when job searching a decade later.
