Happy Buy Nothing Day!

Consumerism is ruining our world.  There is no doubt about it.  Advertising makes people dissatisfied with all the amazing blessings each person has in their lives.  It tells them, “Hey, you’re not a complete person if you don’t buy this product”.  And I disagree.  You are all complete people not matter how much or how little you spend.  Like I always say, “what makes life interesting is not the things that you own, but the shit that you do.”  That’s why I’m totally down with Buy Nothing Day.  It’s an international day or protest against consumerism.

The television and the radio and the internet all tell us shit like, “Damn fool, you better get your ass up at 5am to shop the day after Thanksgiving!  Because if you don’t, you family won’t love you anymore.  You can only buy your friend’s and family’s affection with gifts.”  And my response is FUCK THAT!  Buying my dad discounted Tommy Hilfger socks isn’t make him love me and more or less.  Know what I mean?

Plus, participating in this day of protest is SO easy!  All you gotta do is not go shopping.  That’s it.  Do something else like hiking, reading, swimming, dancing, or fucking.  Or if you wanna have some voyeuristic fun, go to the mall and watch the shopping carnage.  Bring some popcorn and laugh at all the people fighting over some stupid shit that they think they need to buy. Better yet, get further involved.  Check out all the Buy Nothing Day activities over at Adbusters.  I’m all about being a corporate brand zombie!

Happy Buy Nothing Day!
