Troop Beverly Hills: The Experience

“I’m sure it’s very nice to know how to live in the woods, and eat bark, but I’m gonna show you girls how to survive in the wilds of Beverly Hills!”

If there was an 80s movie more in line with my own pre-pubescent desires than Troop Beverly Hills, I can’t imagine what it was. From the very first time I watched Phyllis Nefler stagger in through the door laden with shopping bags and calling out to her housekeeper Rosa I knew that I was watching a kindred spirit

Erika Brooks Adickman felt the same way and so she organized  Troop Beverly Hills: The Experience in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary! A sing-a-long, dance-a-long, quote-a-long movie screening extravaganza, it’s an event that New York magazine described as “Lowbrow and Brilliant” on their approval matrix, and which was covered by Me, Me Me! in Time Out New York. In addition to screening the seminal 1989 film you can expect amazing cookies, a dance party and an appearance from movie director Jeff Kanew.

Come see a brunette Tori Spelling, an already gorgeous Carla Gugino and Jenny Lewis pre-Rabbit Fur Coat.  Be an honorary Wilderness Girl for one night only ! Boo Velda Plendor, dance “The Freddie”, and sing “Cookie Time”. It’s  all popping off tonight at The Bell House and tickets are still available.

Ashley Friedman - Cornerstore Correspondent

Like most kids, Ashley grew up in New Jersey. Unlike most kids the Friedman's televison set acted as a third parent, imbuing young Ashley with the stern moral values of Claire Huxtable, the dramatic tendencies of Brenda Walsh and the earnest hopefulness of the blond kid on Silver Spoons. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence Ashley made her way to the Park Slope area of Brooklyn where she can currently be found reading foreign fashion magazines, scouring ebay for vintage heels, eating out in restaurants and otherwise stretching her meager income as far as it will go in NYC.
