Cuatro and Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Today is a special day.  Cuatro de Mayo: the day before Cinco de Mayo.   We celebrate Cinco de Mayo because on that day in 1862 the Mexican army (against all odds) reigned victorious over French forces at the Battle of Puebla.  Bit of trivia for you:  Since that battle, no sovereign nation in the Americas has been invaded by an army from another continent.  Bet you didn’t know that one!  Check out these three strange and unusual events today and tomorrow.

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
