Benefit Show: Kaylin Lee Clinton + Musicians On Call

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I like nothing more than a good cause.  Ask my mama, I came out of the womb preaching 'œpeace, love, and recycling.'  I like nothing more – except maybe a balmy spring night traipsing around the Lower East Side' after drinking a few bottles of beer' while listening to some soulful musician who plays her heart out three feet away from me for, yes, a good cause!  So put on your fedora, or find something original not sold at Urban Outfitters, and make your way to the National Underground this Friday night.  Kaylin Lee Clinton headlines an evening of jazz, soul, and folk – all benefiting the exciting non-profit Musicians On Call.

Kaylin Lee Clinton is a Philadelphia-born singer-songwriter transplanted to New York City.  The Irish, Israeli, and Russian folk music of her heritage blended with the classical composers and classic American folk artists of her 20-some years on this earth to produce a joyously unique sound of her own.   Offoffonline.com says, “Clinton’s voice is lilting and lovely, and her spotlight moments are transcendent. The timbre of her voice alone can speak volumes. ”  And nytheatre-wire.com raves, “Kaylin Lee Clinton breaks our hearts with her rendition of Kurt Weill’s ‘Tango Habanera’.”  Clinton (vocals, composer) will be accompanied by band members Justin Goldner (bass) Nick Myers (sax), Kirk Schoenherr (guitar) Sam Levin (drums).  She will certainly make you smile and laugh with abandon!

Clinton is partnering with organization Musicians On Call that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities.  In a country where people have to fight for care and worry ceaselessly while undergoing treatment, Musicians On Call uses music to promote and complement the healing process for patients, families and caregivers.  Clinton will also be volunteering with Musicians On Call by performing her show for children in hospital isolation.

Check out their websites for more information on Kaylin Lee Clinton and Musicians On Call.  Or just get your fancy behind off that couch and get the entire scoop in person!  $10 at the door.

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
