FREE Admission to the NorCal Pirate Festival This Weekend

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Yarr!

Pirates are kind of a mid-00’s joke, but when there’s FREE admission and the option to drink mead and eat giant turkey legs or dodo bird meat or whatever it is that Pirates ate (eat?) there’s really no excuse to not get excited about the opportunity to mingle with drunk and dirty bearded assholes this weekend. (Which, let’s face it, you were probably going to be doing anyway.) It’s like a renaissance faire, but on the sea. You’ll even have a chance to be part of history as the pirates attempt to break the Guiness Record for Most Pirates in One Place. (Seriously!) The organizers recommend you come dressed as your favorite sort of pirate whether that’s a historically accurate seacaptain, or a Hollywood swashbuckler. (No word on whether Somali with an AK-47 and a jetski is OK.)

Apparently these rapscallions are even organized enough to have a mission statement:The Northern California Pirate Festival has one goal: To create an entertaining event where everyone who loves pirates will have a great time and feel welcome! Whether you love nautical music, swordfighting, sailing, cannon-battles, theater, maritime crafts, food and drink, or just shopping fer’ pirate booty…there’s something here for YOU!”

CANNON BATTLES, you guys! And it’s sponsored by Lagunitas, who make really good beer so you know there will be much singing of pirate songs. And if you’re car-free like most San Franciscans the easiest way to get to the festival on the Vallejo Waterfront is (appropriately enough) by taking a ferry from the Ferry Building or Pier 41.

Andrew Dalton - Aggressive Panhandler

Andrew is an East Coast transplant from Virginia hamming it up in San Francisco without any intention of leaving. Having worked every typical job from Bike Shop Employee to Bartender to Ad Agency Hotshot, to Dotcom Layoff he now busts his ass covering the "weird things to do" beat for gracious local audiences at SFAppeal.com and rallies the Western Addy/Lower Haight/Panhandle neighborhoods into action at AggressivePanhandler.com. His work was published in a real, paper magazine one time. One day he might even figure out how to make money from it.
