Religious saint candles for you heathens!

Religious saint candles are nearly awesome enough to qualify as broke-ass porn. I know it sounds weird to use those two words together in a sentence but hear me out: they’re wicked cheap '“ usually no more than a dollar a piece '“ and they can be found in any supermarket, corner store, dollar store or bodega. Crazy, ubiquitous and bought for a song? Please. Who isn’t up for that? But perhaps “church lady” isn’t the motif you’re going for in your apartment? No worries; there’s an easy fix to that: paste a picture or image over the candle.

Cut and paste and layer images

Decorate with ribbons, glitter, pounded or punctured tin, pendants, jewels, etc. The Big-Ass Book of Crafts suggests using lace and spray paint to create a lace candleholder. (Use spray adhesive on the lace first if you go for this one, otherwise the lace with move and the paint will smear). Get some friends to throw up tag’s on the thing in Sharpie.

These have been resurfaced as well, but you're hearin' me.

Hell, match it to the drapes if you want, it’s your picnic honey. There are plenty of lovely examples for sale over at Etsy, and Qassa‘s got a good thing going with their own line of saints on candles.

I would sin to get my hands on Qassa's St. Judy candle.
