Movies in New York are the biggest rip-off ever. I refuse to believe that $13 is a legitimate price to see Jake Gyllenhaal play the Prince of Persia. Two dollars would be more reasonable, and I should have the option of a full refund if any of his gratuitous shirtless scenes should happen to make me vom. Jake Gyllenhaal used to be the sexiest, most messed up high-schooler ever, and now he is the new Matthew McConaughey. WTF.
I love going to the movies though. Nothing is better than smuggling a sandwich into the 42nd Street AMC, having a cigarette on the balcony during the crummy part, and then sneaking into a double feature afterward. Especially during the summer because I don’t have air conditioning, but movie theaters DO.
It is probably slightly more difficult to sneak a sandwich into MoMA, but it is worth the effort because if you have a student ID, it is only $6. Plus, their movies are actually interesting. “Waste Land,†a documentary about a group of people who make a living picking recyclables out of the biggest landfill in the world, in Rio de Janeiro, plays Thursday, July 15 at 8pm, and Saturday, July 24 at 2pm. Check out the full calendar here. Or, see some something in 3-D with your cousins. Up to you.
