$1 Negra Modelos at Las Estrellas in Hayes Valley

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

$1!

When I lived in Hayes Valley I pretty much assumed every single drinking option nearby was going to be way above my price range, and all of the restaurants were full of fatcats who had Opera tickets later. But if you look close enough you can find a couple watering holes attempting to lure in the less affluent neighbors, like Las Estrellas who advertise $1 Negra Modelos on their sandwich board on Gough.

I suspect there’s something fishy about the deal because the sandwich board isn’t out on the street 100% of the time and a Yelper confirms that they ring it up as “extra jack cheese” on the bill, but who are we to complain about a beer that’s only a dollar? As a bonus they also have all the standard taqueria menu items and if you’re still hungry you could always head around the corner to FREE appetizers at Sugar Lounge during happy hour.

Andrew Dalton - Aggressive Panhandler

Andrew is an East Coast transplant from Virginia hamming it up in San Francisco without any intention of leaving. Having worked every typical job from Bike Shop Employee to Bartender to Ad Agency Hotshot, to Dotcom Layoff he now busts his ass covering the "weird things to do" beat for gracious local audiences at SFAppeal.com and rallies the Western Addy/Lower Haight/Panhandle neighborhoods into action at AggressivePanhandler.com. His work was published in a real, paper magazine one time. One day he might even figure out how to make money from it.
