What’s Up Dog; Or, What’s Up, Cheap Lunch?

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

It gets expensive eating out if you work in SOMA; restaurants jack up their prices because there are so many suits around taking their clients to lunch. Sometimes I avoid eating lunch all together just so I don’t feel like I’m getting robbed. But after some choice hot dog food porn was passed around the office, a few of my coworkers and I couldn’t take it. We went to What’s Up Dog.

First of all, this menu is amazing. I thought I had walked into some gross fast food joint where there would be two options and they both would be nothing short of disgusting, but I was wrong. What’s Up Dog’s menu is pretty prolific for a hot dog stand and they use high-quality ingredients to boot. The wieners are long and have a nice snap when you bite into them. Secondly, these bitches are filling. I got a chili dog with onions and jalapeños around noon and was completely full until 10 o’clock at night (at which point I just went to bed instead of eating, so I saved on dinner!) Third, it’s pretty cheap. My meal cost me less than five bucks; one of my coworkers got the same chili dog but with two wieners instead of one (“the Double Dog”) and his was around seven. Considering the fact that they leave you totally and completely satisfied, I’d call it a steal.
