FREE We Are Scientists Show in Williamsburg

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

This Saturday, a very rare and magical thing will happen. Green grass will be seen at McCarren park, wait time at Turkey’s Nest will be less than 5 minutes, and the number of times you think “ZOMG, that’s Zach Galifianakis! Oh… wait, no, it’s not” will be significantly reduced. Siren Music Festival’s magnetic pull will strip Williamsburg of its free music-rabid constituents, possibly turning the gratis We Are Scientists in-store at Sound Fix on Saturday night at 8PM into the comfortable and enjoyable event it’s intended to be.

The Brooklyn-via-Cali rockers will perform a special, stripped-down set showcasing songs from their new album Barbara (Masterswan/Megaforce), a work of bright, danceable pop rock for which the band is famous. On your way, swing by the cozy bar Soft Spot (Bedford & N. 10th) to celebrate its 5-year anniversary and reminisce about when it was just a lil’ Soft Dot. The bar’s $3 burger and $2 hotdog special will help you soak up the two-for-one drinks they’re offering up from 12-8PM so you can still walk down the street to the show after. For extra motivation, check out the band’s bruise/squirrel/strange-but-cute-kid-filled day around Stuy Town in their “Nice Guys” video:

Jill is an Ohio native and Boston University graduate who refuses to stop saying "pop" and wearing her Red Sox gear despite being heckled for doing so since moving to Brooklyn. She's been honing her thrifty ways since doing that silly thing people talk about when they ignore reason to follow their hearts and chose a career in the fulfilling but faltering music industry. She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
