I keep a book called How to Write Erotica on my shelf next to my other reference books about grammar and proper citation rules, because the glossary is a never-ending source of knowledge. Like, did you know that three or more people constitute an orgy? Or that a House of assignation is a predecessor to a motel with hourly rates? The rest of the book is a bit dated; the author completely dismisses the idea of a market for transsexual erotica. But I gathered one main point from its advice and examples: writing good erotica is really fucking hard (pun intended).
Luckily, with New York being a huge city, there are enough talented writers to have an entire reading series of erotica stories. In the Flesh happens every third Thursday of the month at Happy Endings, and asks readers to share an erotic story surrounding a similar theme. Tomorrow night’s theme is perfect for an August evening: summer sex and sex on the beach. And as a bonus there will be free cupcakes from Baked by Melissa and a chance to win one of four waterproof vibrators from EdenFantasys! Happy Endings hasn’t been this hot since you could actually get a happy ending there!
