The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

As if you need an excuse to partake in CoCo66‘s fantastic $3 draft and well drink happy hour from 4-8PM, now you can count “helping kids read good and stuff” as one of them. Tonight, alt-country troubadour Phosphorescent will join best-selling author Sloane Crosley for a double-bill of entertainment (for the price of one, just sayin’ #1) at the “Show Off Your Sugar” series benefiting 826NYC.

“Show Off Your Sugar” features one musician and one author, ahem, showing their sugar with all proceeds going to the local nonprofit. However, tonight is different… while most musicians perform acoustically, Phosphorescent will give attendees a full electric set from his recently praised-by-everyone release Here’s to Taking it Easy (his last NYC shows were sold out, just sayin’ #2). Crosley will open the night with a reading from her latest brilliant book How Did You Get This Number (which features a forward by David Sedaris, just sayin’ #3) – another round of hilariously endearing tales to follow up her crazy successful I Was Told There’d Be Cake.

So go, drink, laugh, and take it easy all in honor of something substantially more valid than “cuz it’s Thursday night.”
