Lookin’ Lovely: Back To School Looks, Part One!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Hello, I’m back again for all of your sartorial interests and pursuits! I have spent a lot of the past week dressing ladies for their return to the fall semester, and there is nothing that makes me more stoked than making sure that they will KILL on the first day. I’m taking a couple of my favorite looks from the editorials and paring them down to make them easily accessible from your closet, and allow you to spend less money!

The Fair Isle sweater is a classic piece of clothing that is ubiquitous with the fall and winter seasons. The classic patterns have been knit into wool and cotton for, literally, centuries, and are a staple in anyone’s wardrobe.Did you guys know that there is an actual place in England called Fair Isle where the craft originated, and that they still churn out the original sweaters and jumpers? I didn’t actually include a sweater in here since they were all way too expensive [I like to look good, but I also like to eat], but I feel there is a general look to Fair Isle that is easily attainable with stuff you already have in your closet. Take a gander!

fair isle fantasy.

The easiest way to save money on this look is to save on accessories. I went a little crazy on the purse, but it’s literally almost an exact replica of the one in the editorial, so i couldn’t resist! Always remember that knit trends, like gloves, scarves, legwarmers and hats, will be around every season and will probably almost always change to fit trends, so there is no reason to spend a ton of money on them. And who doesn’t have a flannel in their closet? I liked the color of this one, but it was mostly just for inspiration for you to reuse that wardrobe staple yet again in a new way.

Stay tuned for two more looks that I’m sure will have you stoked to hit the books again!

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one
righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco
State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate
completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the
Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country
Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most
underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though
she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of
never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With
intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart
out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year,
she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to
get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or
fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you
the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't
kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze,
get at me.]
