Second Stop Cafe: Worth the Wait

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

First, the immediate good news. Second Stop Cafe is not only steps away from the Lorimer L stop, but carries Stumptown coffee, has amazingly delicious food with great healthy options (& smoothies!), and it has free wifi! The semi-bad news? It’s always super crowded with laptop people, it can get kinda hot during the summer, sometimes the food can take a super long time, the clientele can be eye-roll inducing, and there is this one super annoying dude who works the counter sometimes (to the point where I literally almost left while waiting in line).

For all of its faults, though, here’s the thing that makes it the most unique aside from Stumptown: In a world full of bagels, there is a scourge upon the (Lorimer L stop-areas of) earth– like, for some crazy ridiculous reason, Second Stop the only damn place closest to the Lorimer L stop that has bagels. I know, I know, it makes absolutely no sense. But, honestly, NONE of the delis in the immediate area have bagels. It’s effing CRAZY, you guys! You’d have to walk up Metropolitan to the delicious, but not super closeby The Bagel Store by the Graham L, or The Bagelsmith on Bedford. Que ridiculo! No?

Recommendations? The Vegan Carrot Ginger Cake is amazing if you’re craving something sweet and don’t want to eat 5 billion calories worth of shit. I love their mozzarella, tomato, basil on ciabatta, and I’ve been dying to try their veggie sandwich that’s on special- I think it’s called the Ingrid. Has anyone tried it yet? Give us the deets!
