During most of the year, NYC can be your gym. You can run on the sidewalks, ride along bike paths, or even just run up and down stairs in a park until your ass feels like it’s going to fall off. And if you don’t feel like actually working up a sweat, you can just walk everywhere to not feel like a fatass. Then there’s the few months of winter, where it’s difficult to leave your warm blankets, let alone thinking about biking anywhere. So if you’re feeling antsy or lazy during the winter, buy a jump rope to use in your apartment. If your ceilings aren’t tall enough to jump rope, join the Metropolitan Pool.
The Metropolitan Pool is that stone building on Bedford in Williamsburg that wafts a chlorine smell onto the sidewalk sometimes. In addition to a giant lap pool, they have cardio equipment, a weight room and a class that combines yoga, dance martial arts and several other trendy work outs. It’s not the kind of gym that has a juice bar with their own brand of fake Gatorade, but it’s got everything you need for a good work out. Oh, and the best part: it’s $75 a year to join. That means it will cost you $6.25 a month.
