$2 Brewskie Madness Every Monday at the Lone Star

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

There's a star in the west.

One thing the current owners wanted to retain when they took over the Lone Star Saloon a year ago was the blue collar charm and clientele.

Although blue collar is an increasingly rare species in these parts, menu-wise the bar seems to be doing it’s best to keep it’s watering hole stocked like any concerned conservationists.

On Thursdays and Saturdays, they are already pretty well known for their beer busts, which feature Rolling Rock on draft. You can also get Latrobe, PA’s gift to the world every other day for $2 dollars.

Pretty standard as far as bar specials go, but it is their Monday special that stands out from the rest.

Every Monday, from opening to close, every beer label they carry is only $2. Bottles or pints, imported or domestic- each beer is on equal footing. Every beer for any man! Beer class-ism leveled.

So for all you average Joes out there, although a cold can of Pabst or Olympia is a solid, honest choice you can drink with pride, it’s always nice to cleanse your palate with the quaff of the other half.  Just because your collar is blue, don’t mean you can’t switch things up for a change.  It might soften the blow of being on the endangered list, anyhow.

Stephen's early years were spent in a boxcar overlooking downtown Los Angeles. From there he moved around the state with his family before settling under the warm blanket of smog that covers suburban Southern California. Moving around led to his inability to stay in one place for very long, but San Francisco has been reeling him back in with its siren song since 1999.
By trade he pours booze, but likes to think he can write and does so occasionally for the SF Bay Guardian, Bold Italic and 7x7. He also likes to enjoy time spent in old eateries, bars and businesses that, by most standards, would have been condemned a long time ago.
