I’m always weary off things dubbed an “overseas sensation”, usually it involves Puppetry of the Penis, DragonBall Z, or other culturally confusing phenomenon. But throw “secret” on front of an event and I’m all in. Bingo has undergone a number of transformations over the years. What’s usually associated with church fund-raising for the geriatric has been appropriated by Drag Queens and the like. And now that the young folks have got their hands on it, it’s morphed into the Underground Rebel Bingo Club, coming to a basement near you.
What first started out in London, quickly spread to the rest of England faster than you can say Bob’s Your Uncle. Since its arrival stateside in Brooklyn, it didn’t take much to get the masses to jump on the bingo bandwagon. Instead of Aunt Ethel running the machine you’ve got buxom broads running the show along with a host, some magic markers thrown in for body modification and some novelty prizes like an inflatable swimming pool or a stuffed panda bear.
Tickets are $15 a pop, and there’s rumor of an open bar from 10-11. If you’re a bingo die-hard, join their Facebook Group for further discounts. Plus any event who’s main rule is “no wankers”, I can certainly get behind. So if you’re looking for some good, not-so clean fun on a Saturday night, get ready to watch some balls fly.
