FREE University of San Francisco Teach-In

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

FACT: Learning is fun! Student loans? Un-fun. Thankfully, some really smart people got together and came up with the great idea of starting a FREE University of sorts. The historic first Teach-In will be happening this Saturday and Sunday and will offer classes covering a wide array of topics.

Their inspiring mission got me fist-pumpingly excited to dust off my book bag and head back to school:

Our mission is to oversee the restoration of humanity—warm, literate, democratic—to vibrant human life. In order to achieve this aim we must take hold of the very hub of our culture, which is education, and create a brand new kind of institution, one whose existence makes no sense in the current social order, one that stands in direct defiance of the privatized profit-oriented social engineering centers that pass for universities today.

Requirements for admission are as follows: you must possess a desire to learn and/or teach.

The impressive schedule and locations are listed on their website, and at this point no registration is required. I’ve already started sharpening my mechanical pencils and turning my thinking cap on. Let the learning begin!

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
