Any day is Booze Day at Bar Matchless

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Yesterday, the internet went down at work and I was sent home. PJs on, cookie crumbs on my shirt and Ghostbusters on the TV, there was only one thing that dragged me from my pathetic but cozy lair: Two for Tuesdays at Bar Matchless.

Dangerously, the special is from 8PM-2AM…perfectly timed so that you will inevitably get too drunk/stay out too late/consider getting a Ninja Turtle tattoo. On Wednesdays, local bands play for free in the side room followed by Heavy Metal Karaoke, during which every song sung is followed by a complimentary shot to make your “Enter Sandman” extra throaty. Thursday night features free music as well, and the Ladies Night special of $3 wells and Bud drafts until 2AM will make them sound way good to all the womenz.

The food is surprisingly top-notch for a dive bar; highlights including saucy hot wings at $6 for a half-order and the Panelle sandwich of fried chickpeas, ricotta and Parmesan cheese and tomato sauce for the veggie folk. The brunch specials are also top notch; $9 for platters and pints of bloody mary’s for just $5… totally worth leaving the house for, no matter how many puddles you have to step in outside.
