Gravid Water: Part Improv, Part Play, All Awesome
Gravid Water is the theatrical equivalent of letting one side of a debate prepare statements, and not telling the other side what the debate topic is. But instead of being an unfair trainwreck, it’s one of the best nights at UCB Theatre. Gravid Water is a monthly show where an actor prepares a scene from a play or film, and then they perform it with an improviser who has no prior knowledge to the scene. So while Jacob Marley is giving a speech about the ghosts of Christmas past coming, his stage partner demands he speak in a Russian accent and suggests he remove his giant chains. People start fights to the tune of numbers from Guys and Dolls, and their partner attempt to hold a tune. With one sentence, serious journalistic interviews get moved to roller rinks and rocks take down an abandoned house. Tonight’s show features Scott Adsit, several actors from Shakespeare in the Park, Tony Nominees, and many more people who you make you laugh until PBR comes out of your nose.
