Inner Richmond Gem: Toy Boat Dessert Cafe

Toy Boat Dessert Café is hands down one of the greatest cafes in San Francisco. Where else in this city can you grab a sandwich, finish it off with a heaping cup of your favorite ice cream all while feeling nostalgic from the hundreds of toys staring at you from every angle? Sure, this could be considered a bit unnerving, but hear me out.

Toy Boat serves up everything from sandwiches and soup (the soup of the day, by the way, comes with toast and butter all for only $3.50) to smoothies and ice cream. Everything I found on the menu was under eight bucks. As an added bonus, on Mondays all coffee, tea, and espresso are only $1. If you need your fix on a budget, this is your place.

Back to the toys – they are everywhere. If you take a look around while eating you’ll see Gumby, Kiss, Waldo, Godzilla, Pee-wee Herman, Scooby Doo, and Harry (you know, from Harry and the Hendersons). I could go on for days, but for an up close and personal experience give it a look.

If you’re ever in the neighborhood, you should check it out. The staff is usually friendly and attentive, and the portion sizes are plenty large enough for the price. If you’re going here for the ice cream, I highly recommend “It’s a Goody.” It’s the shit.
