Ace’s: Cheap Booze and FREE BBQ

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Lately I’ve been feeling very dive-y when it comes to bars.  Eff spending an hour doing my hair and makeup — I just want to go somewhere in a hoodie and hang out with my PBR in a dark, smelly corner.  Obviously it’s fun to dress up and sashay around impeccably decorated bars sipping fancy drinks with  names like “Blood and Sand” and “Chartreuse Swizzle,” (can anyone guess where I was last night?), but unless you have a sugar mama/daddy, you’re probably not hitting up those types of places on the reg.

Thank God for bars like Ace’s.  The crowd tends to be more diverse than many spots in Nob Hill, which is definitely appreciated, and the cheap booze is great when spending several hours there watching our defending World Series champs!  From 6am (yes, 6am!) till 8pm, well drinks and 16-oz cans of Bud/Bud Light are only $3, or if you’re feeling totally disgusting, a Bud tall boy and a shot of Jameson is a mere $8.  Also, during football season, Ace’s serves FREE BBQ (burgers, hot dogs and chicken) during Sunday NFL games.  And yes, I realize it’s sort of sad I’m looking forward to football season only because of the prospect of FREE food.

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
