Wishing for a Cheap Happy Hour?

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Have you been wishing upon a star for a different kind of Happy Hour experience than the typical dive bar you always go? Your wish is their command at Wish, an intimate lounge in SOMA. The bar is dark, long and looks a bit posh. The music is electronic, a DJ usually spins house music every night. Actually, even when there is no DJ, they are still required to play chill out or lounge music – according to my friend that works there.

Wish has a great Happy Hour from 5 – 8 pm, with $3 drafts and $4 wells. You can even score some free bar snacks if you’re lucky. The place is pretty empty so early on, so you can grab a sofa with your friends or just hang out at the bar and watch the transformation into nighttime, as candles become lit and red lanterns start to glow. Wish doesn’t get packed until late, and then the crowd can be questionable. Most people are pretty mellow, but sometimes it gets filled with “non-broke-asses” who like to flash off their brand name clothing and fancy cocktails. That usually happens on the weekends.

If you’ve never been to Wish, stop by their weekday Happy Hour to get a sense of the place and get your drink on for cheap. By the time the place starts filling up, you will either be drunk enough to dance – or ready to move on to your favorite local bar with a pool table…
