Get your Broadway and Off-Broadway Fix for FREE at the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Your FREE ticket to participating in those pretentious party conversations.

Cheap-Asses should drag their broke asses to the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive on the third floor The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center where you can watch video recordings of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theatre productions as well as dialogues between notable theatre personalities for absolutely FREE, as long as you have your New York Public Library card and are prepared with a valid reason for viewing like, “All my money went to pay my Lower East Side rent.”

Although currently running shows are not available, there is still an entire library that includes Fences starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis (I remember tickets were going for $300+ that those) and Annie Baker’s Circle Mirror Transformation.  Additional titles can be found in the Library’s Online Catalog.

Hopefully the South Park writers’ Book of Mormon will find its way into their collection soon because I certainly cannot afford the $328-$447 tickets that are on sale.  I also don’t have to time to camp out two hours before the show to put my name into the ticket lottery and hope to the heavens that I’ll get a seat ten days in a row.  So… the glowing NY Times Review and hearsay from my wealthier friends will have to suffice for now.  Unless someone who is reading this wants to take me.

With only 24 monitors available in the Lucille Lortel screening room, advance appointments are strongly recommended for viewing. Advance appointments are available Tuesday through Saturday and can be made in person or by telephone at least one day in advance. Appointments are limited to five titles. More than one person can view each recording at a time, so bring friends, concessions, and throw a paarty!

Patricia Serrano - Destitute Diva

Patricia Serrano is a classically-trained screenwriter with a passion
for one-of-kind life experiences and well-written paragraphs. Hailing
from Bangkok, Thailand, she was disowned by her family when she
decided to be a writer. She came to the states to pursue a career in
journalism at Emerson College, but found that writing films pissed her
parents off more. She successfully survived a two-year MFA program
for Dramatic Writing at NYU that has left her bank account at a
negative balance and gets instant gratification from writing for the
web.
