Pretty Cheesy: Le Tour de Fromage

Updated: Mar 03, 2012 17:26
The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Chances are, if you’ve made it to Ocean Beach, you’ve made it to the peculiarly hip two-block stretch of Judah Street, home to this writer’s tattoo parlor, Outerlands’ gloriously bread-heavy meals, Trouble Coffee’s fog-defying americanos, a raw food spot, and, of course, a 7-Eleven (no beach should be without one).

The far-West stretch of Judah, though, is also home to a kick-ass food co-op, Other Avenues, which gently cradles one of the best cheese selections in the city. It’s also the epicenter of the aptly-named Tour de Fromage, a bike tour (!) of San Francisco’s best cheesy spots led by Other Avenues’ very own Cheesemonger, JB Rumburg.

The tour takes off at 10 a.m. on Saturday from McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate Park. A five-buck donation is requested – small price to pay for a belly full of stinky gold. Bring a lock! Bring a breathmint!

Lucy Schiller - Destitute Dispatcher

Lucy's been able to live lots of places but holds her cornfed/pie-fueled Midwestern roots most dear, maintaining too loudly and too often that the Outer Richmond is the Midwest of SF: driven through to get elsewhere and knocked around for no reason (but what other neighborhood has bison?!). You can find Lucy letting things languish in her fridge, purposefully (limoncello!) or not (yogurt...), mouthbreathing, scouring Golden Gate Park for apartment-worthy items, sleepily serving up double nonfat half-caf-half-non-caf lattes at a certain cafe, skulking in various other ones, and yelling under cover of night and costume at SF Bike Party.
