The Charleston In Williamsburg: Booze and FREE Pizza

In the middle of Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood of hipsters, artists and broke-asses, is a special place amongst the infinite amount of restaurants and bars riddled along Bedford avenue–the Charleston. The Charleston is an unrivaled hangout spot for the local clan of Brooklynites. To start off, its owners have cleverly designated a cozy sitting area outside of the establishment, on the sidewalk–wonderful for those beautiful spring and summer days/nights.

Once inside you’re given the option of sitting at the bar, sitting at one of the booths or sitting on this slightly elevated area towards the back. But before you figure out your sitting situation you first have to decide what you’ll be drinking. They have a fairly broad number of options on deck ranging from bottled beer, draft beers and drinks. Most beers are $5 and a pitcher can be as much as $18. They also offer three beer & shot combinations for $5, with aptly titled nicknames:

The Lowlife – Miller High Life & Whiskey shot

The Gringo – Tecate & Whiskey shot

Bandito – Tecate & Tequila shot

Staying within the spirit of the Latino influenced beer & shot combos, the Charleston also carries the Mexican Car Crash, a margarita with a Corona in it. This, like most drinks and cocktails, will cost you $7.

Aside from the cheap drink specials, patrons who visit the Charleston may also enjoy a FREE personal pizza with any drink order over $5. I believe each customer receives one ticket per order, meaning if you’d like more than one personal pie you’d have to pay the extra dollar to get one. It takes about 10 minutes per pie (if it’s not busy).

At night this place comes alive with hard rock playing on the speakers, a band performing downstairs and a weird movie that will make you say, “what the fuck?,” screening on the television. It’s a fun, vibrant bar with some interesting people. Kick back and have a good time. It’s the Charleston, man.

Enrique Grijalva - Mr. Minimum Wage

My father came, my mother saw...and I conquered. I encourage children to do drugs, I buy alcohol for teenagers, and I drink beer with the homeless. In my spare time, I attend art galleries for the FREE booze while rubbing elbows with modish elephants. I also hammer six-inch nails into small penises. Stuart knighted me as Broke-Ass King of New York. You've been warned.
