50 writers reading for 3 minutes each! And you get to listen to it all for FREE.

On Friday, May 10, Book Passage is opening their doors to 50 writers from Writer’s Grotto and giving them each 3 minutes to read from their new work. As they say:

Joins us for a fast-paced and irreverent evening, showcasing new work from the students of the San Francisco Writer’s Grotto writing classes. On this Friday evening, both fiction and nonfiction writers will read their work — but only for 3 minutes each! Their instructors (Grotto authors) will enforce the time limit. Join us for wine, fun, and fresh new writing.

Wine, fun, and fresh new writing? I’m in.

If you don’t know about Writer’s Grotto yet, it’s a stellar place for writers to gather and learn our craft. And I love how they talk about their “place”:

The Grotto is a place. Or, it is a hypothesis about “Place”, which we have been testing for some time. The hypothesis is that working writers will be more productive (and have more courage to pursue the kind of writing they really want to do) if they work in a community of writers — if they surround themselves with other writers pursuing this same vague ambition. The writers and filmmakers at the Grotto are not united by anything more than that — not by any school of thought, or style, or genre. Our differences rub off on each other, informally, and we grow into talents we didn’t even know we had.

Check out what 50 writers from that kind of a “place” are writing next week.
