The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

You may have hear that renowned local drag Heklina got herself a new nightclub, and have you been there yet?  It’s called Oasis, it’s got a bar and a cabaret theater with table seating and it’s actually Heklina and D’Arcy Drollinger’s new nightclub with a couple other business partners.  And the place is just dope as fuck.  In this age of boutique cocktail lounges that are singularly obsessed with chasing the techie dollar, Oasis is the one new club that maintains the spirit of San Francisco’s culture, character and history. (Or ‘herstory’. I’m not sure how it prefers to be addressed.)

Let’s take a look at the wild array of shows, events and can’t-miss happenings at SoMA’s chic new drag, burlesque and cabaret hotspot.

RED HOTS BURLESQUE

Dottie Lux brings her beloved burlesque revue Red Hots Burlesque to the Oasis stage every Wednesday night, beginning with a February 4 show featuring ‘Elvis Herselvis’ Leigh Crow, Burlesque Hall of Famer Ellion Ness, Ava Lanche, Kyoko Uchida, Harvest MoonShredder Hoops, Eva Rose and Sgt. Die Wies.  That is a lot of show, you guys!

“All of our shows offer something different,” Ms. Lux says, via her fine email newsletter.  “This two-hour long spectacular will be our high end experience with that RHB grit you’re able to sink your teeth into.  We will always be more than a pageant.  We are culture creators.  And this space will allow us to soar!”

“SHIT & CHAMPAGNE”

It’s a real shitshow!  The hilarious drag send-up “Shit & Champagne” stars Oasis co-owner D’Arcy Drollinger in “exploitation comedy with dance”.  SFist raves in their review that “‘Shit  & Champagne’ had me wetting and soiling myself with laughter for two solid hours!”

“Shit & Champagne” runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night through Feb. 14.  And what better gift could you possibly give for Valentine’s Day than the gift of “Shit & Champagne”?

MIRAGE

Latenite Bubbles hostess Bernadette brings here outta-fuckin-control show to the Oasis for Mirage on Tuesday, February 10, along with Bebe Sweetbriar and Tweaka Turner.  “Do you remember the days of ‘American Bandstand’ and ‘Soul Train’?,” asks Bernadette.  “Of course not because you are too young!  Well, we will help you relive or experience for the first time that awesome time.  Dance music by Go BANG! djs, Steve Fabus and Sergio Fedasz, will keep fun times rolling on the dance floor, ‘Name That Song Playin’ and ‘Name That Band Jammin’ games will get you on the stage for prizes, and pop up drag performances will plant the image of back-in-day music stars.”

Kool kids will want to come early for a taping od the show “Latenite Bubbles, featuring Holy McGrail, Dottie Lux, Honey Mahogany, Sheena Rose, Kylie Minono and more.

MOTHER

Mother is Heklina’s new weekly drag show that runs every Saturday night at 10 p.m. on the Oasis stage.  The theme this Saturday (Feb. 7) is Kate Bush Tribute, Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) is Broken Hearts Club co-hostessed by birthday girl Putanesca, the night before the Oscars (Feb. 21) is Ladies of the Silver Screen and  Feb. 28 is the 16th Annual Star Search with co-hostess Peaches Christ!

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention A Cookie Dough Celebration of Life, a benefit for the late, great Cookie Dough at the Victoria Theater.  Ms. Dough’s friends and family are still facing significant medical and funeral costs, and could really use your help.  But the show must go on…. and it will at the Oasis.  Check the Oasis calendar for details on these and other shows.
