Win Tickets: Shuggie Otis – The Original Strawberry Letter 23 @ The New Parish!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Shuggie Otis, who oddly looks really similar to my first boyfriend, can be connected to myriad of famous and solar musicians throughout the ages: his father, Johnny Otis, discovered Etta James and Jackie Wilson, Shuggie’s first son’s mother was in The GTOs, a group created by Frank Zappa and he has connections to trumpeter and jazz pioneer Gerald Wilson. Even so, he’s most famously known for writing the song “Strawberry Letter 23” (written at just 18-years-old) that is best known by the version recorded by The Brothers Johnson.

At the age of 61, the Los Angeles native is sporadically on the tour circuit and will be gracing us with his funky – and rare – presence at The New Parish. If you consider yourself one of them music “buffs/nerds/aficionados,” get your ass down to this gig.
