This has been quite a week for heroics from the homeless community in San Francisco. First a homeless man helps capture fugitives from Southern California and today I got word that a homeless woman rescued the missing Zarafa costume.

If you recall from earlier this week, someone in SoMa burgled a Furry costume named Zarafa from the trunk of a car. Luckily I just got word from Smashwolf that Zarafa has been found and returned to his rightful owner. Here is what he said:

Zarafa’s been found! A homeless woman found the costume. DJ Neon Bunny got a crew to post flyers with pictures. A couple days later a tip came in. Zarafa is missing a foot and a hand, and a little muddy, but should clean up well.

And here is the update from DJ Neon Bunny himself:

Update: On Tuesday night me and Zarafa hit the streets of San Francisco in that area to check thrift stores, and put up lost/reward posters and talk to people who live there. We put up or gave over about 100 posters.

On Wednesday evening, Zarafa got a call from two homeless ladies who live in tents around that area. One had found the fursuit on Sunday in an ally nearby (most likely ditched when the thier realized it wasn’t electronics), and she could tell it was special so she hung on to it. The other had seen the poster we put up and told her friend.

Zarafa was up in the north bay, so he called me and I headed over to SF with my boyfriend. Was scepticle at first, but we met them at DNA pizza, and there was the giraffe in a large black bag! No bin, but that’s ok. We gave them the reward money, bought them a large pizza, gave them 2 sleeping bags i had in my basement i hadn’t used in forever, talked about life on the streets, and gave them a bunch of hugs.

The purple giraffe, while a little smelly from being damp and in a bag for a few days, is now back with his owner being cleaned now.

Thanks to all those who commented and showed they cared on our original post. It’s nice to know that Zarafa is home safely.
