Emergency Community Meeting to Support Black Lives Matter

blacklivesmatter

I just got the invite to this and I figured I’d share it. I know many of you are dismayed and heartbroken by the police violence perpetrated against people of color, so this is a great way to get plugged in and find out what you can do to help. It’s coming up this Wednesday, July 13th from 7-9:30pm at Gray Area Art + Technology in The Mission.

Below is all the info from the FB invite, which you can RSVP or right here.

Black lives matter. Let’s stand up.

Please come to this emergency meeting, where we will discuss ways to take action on police brutality and support #blacklivesmatter.

Invite your friends and spread the word!

Community leader Edwin Lindo, Jennifer Aviv from Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), and others will be present to facilitate the discussion, provide context, and highlight areas where we can help.

We know we can’t fix everything in a day. We will discuss how to educate ourselves, use our resources to help the movement, and work for change.

This is our small first step in a much larger effort. We look forward to having you join us on this journey.

7:15 Small-group discussion & sharing
7:45 Overview of the movement from community leaders
8:00 Create action items (facilitated discussion)
8:30 Breakout sessions to plan action
9:10 Groups report back & set next steps

I've been called "an Underground legend": SF Chronicle , "an SF cult hero": SF Bay Guardian, and "the chief of cheap": Time Out New York, but to those familiar with my work, I'm just "that douchebag who writes books about cheap stuff and drinks a lot".
