Naked Decorated Bodies Coming to SF Ferry Building

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

On Saturday afternoon September 24th, the day before the Folsom Street Fair unfolds, there will be the first ‘San Francisco Body Art Show’ taking place at the Embarcadero between the Ferry Building and Pier 1.  So it is outdoors and in one of SF’s tourists epicenters.  There will be a parade, live music, dancing, modeling, after parties and of course lots of decorated naked bodies.sf body art cover

According to the event’s organizers it took 2 years for a recent Federal Court decision to issue the permit for this event.

As described by the organizers: “This is an art event exhibiting a wide variety of body decoration. Our bodies are the art work. This is a “bare as you dare” event, which means that participants (and spectators) can attend completely naked if they wish. However, since it is a body art event, participants (including nudists) are encouraged to decorate their bodies in some manner. Decorating can include tattoos, body paint, jewelry (including genital jewelry), hennas, costumes and “leather gear”.

What will happen?

“You will model your artistic body in front of spectators. You will have a wonderful opportunity to meet other art models. The event will be featured on this blog (www.bodyartshow.weebly.com) and in a YouTube video, and probably in some mainstream media. The Body Art Show will be next door to an excellent gourmet-level Farmers Market at the Ferry Building. Other highly regarded cafés and restaurants are in the area. There will be street music — some suitable for dancing. (Please tip the musicians.) Following the parade, there will be an after-event party near Fisherman’s Wharf (exact location to be announced at the event).”

  • Offsite of this event (outside of the Show area and the Parade route) San Francisco’s anti-nudity ordinance will apply, which bans the open display of your genitals. However, anyone may be bare-chested and bare-butted at any time anywhere in San Francisco except in city parks.

Hours: September 24th, 10 am to 4 pm ••• The show starts at 10 am. The parade starts at 2:30 pm.

Cost: It’s FREE to participate and FREE to observe.

Location: The Body Art Show will take place in San Francisco, at the Embarcadero between the Ferry Building and Pier 1 (Starbucks). Adjacent overflow areas will be available if needed.

Parade Route: From the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero bike lane to Fisherman’s Wharf (Jefferson & Taylor). The parade is a 35-minute level-grade walk. Pedi-cabs are available for hire.
