As a bakery.

We waited a really long time for the Uptown location of Locol to open, although it was met with some really harsh criticism. Instead of looking at it beyond the food they were serving – honing in on the fact that they primarily employ residents of the neighborhood they encompass and trying to shift the dynamic between underrepresented areas and fast food – the bad review food writer chose to stick to the antiquated review equation, which obviously cannot work with a concept like this. For this concept doesn’t really exist anywhere else in the country.

It’s been 37 weeks since last we heard about the West Oakland location being spoken about in whispers, and it’s finally opening as a bakery. Taking the place of former Tomm’s Bar-B-Q and Deli, Locol promises to exist as more of a snack shack with pizza and breakfast sandwiches on “bunzz.”

The Uptown and Watts locations both got a menu revamp, with additions like chili cheese fries and pre-formed combinations. Also, there’s a rumor they got that chicken and waffles. What?! It opens on March 31, 8AM-8PM with party starting at 3PM.
