Charlie Rose Kicked Off The Air After 8 Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

Now Charlie Rose is being described as a serial sexual harasser by former female staffers.  The news has come as a big surprise to many who have watched and adored the multiple Emmy and Peabody Award winning journalist for decades.  At least 16 men in media have been accused of sexual harassment since the Weinstein story broke last month.  Axios reporter Stef Kight has the full list here.  The latest news is that CBS News has suspended Charlie Rose from ‘CBS This Morning‘ over the allegations of sexual misconduct.  The Washington Post published claims from eight women who all worked or wanted to work for his PBS program. They describe Rose making unwanted sexual advances in the 1990s through 2011.

Some say Rose groped them or exposed himself to them, and many paint a picture of a respected figure abusing his position.  Washington Post reporter Amy Brittain spent weeks reaching out to Rose’s former employees and job seekers.  Several “described Rose putting his hand on their legs, sometimes their upper thigh.” One said he “groped her breasts” as she drove him in a car. Two women said he “walked naked in front of them” after taking a shower.

Irin Carmon and Amy Brittain’s Washington Post Article describes how Rose used his position at the show and routinely invited female interns and job prospectors over to his private homes:

“A woman who began as an intern in the late 1990s and was later hired full time described a “ritual” of young women at the show being summoned by Rose to his Manhattan apartment to work at a desk there. The woman described a day when Rose went into the bathroom, left the door open and turned on the shower.

She said he began to call her name, insistently. She ignored him, she said, and continued working. Suddenly, he came out of the bathroom and stood over her. She turned her head, briefly saw skin and Rose with a towel and jerked back around to avoid the sight. She said he said, “Didn’t you hear me calling you?”

She said she told someone in the office, and word got around. A few days later, she said, a male colleague approached her, laughing, “Oh, you got the shower trick.” The woman’s sister confirmed that her sibling had told her about the shower incident soon after it occurred.”

“Oh, you got the shower trick.”

One of his alleged victims described going to Rose’s house for a job interview as her “crying the entire time” as “he reached down her pants.” Rose tweeted a statement Monday evening saying, “I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate.” Rose explained, “I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.”

Charlie Rose’s female co-hosts on CBS This Morning reported on the news today:
