City Winery Wants to Get you Drunk and Show you a Nice Time
Unless I accidentally sit in the wrong seat, it is unusual for me to walk into a bar and find three glasses of nice wine waiting for me on my table. Especially at a swanky spot, complete with prerequisite swanky spot twinkly lights. But this happened to me at City Winery, and it happened in two more rounds, and if it had happened any more I wouldn’t have been able to bike home. And that is the beauty of their “Music and Wine” pairing series.
With glasses priced around $10 a pop, the $25-$28 for 9 wine flights and hour and a half of premier live music seems cheap by comparison. In my case, I was lucky that a band I really wanted to see–The (amazing) Ed Palermo Big Band–was providing that live music, which even included an encore tasting to correspond with the band’s real-life encore. Now that’s synergy, people! Ugh, I just used the word “synergy.” Sorry about that.
City Winery has a slew of additional unique offerings, like a screening of Leonard Cohen DVD “Songs from the Road” and $5 comedy nights with $5 glasses of wine, in addition to solid schedule of live music from all worlds. Or it’s also nice to go just to sit, drink, and stare at all of the swanky spot twinkly lights.
