Gold Cane: Always Cheap, Always a Good Time

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I have a lot of friends who live in Upper Haight, and it just so happens that every time I am up there, I find myself ending up at the Gold Cane. This dark and divey cocktail lounge is infamous for its cheap drinks all day and all night. No Happy Hour needed here, bottled beers run around $3, most pints are $4 and you can even get top-shelf booze, like Ketel One and soda, for $5. Depending on the bartender, you might even get a bro-deal and pay less. Once I ordered four beers and a shot for under $20!

Anyways, the Gold Cane hosts a variety of sleazy people to chat with at the bar. There is a pool table and TVs with sports games on all the time. Last week I was cheering for Mexico in the soccer game vs. the US. I think I almost got in a fight with someone who told me I was “un-patriotic!” So what if I am…

I tend to meet the most interesting people outside in the back patio. Call it a smoking lounge if you will, it is awesome to chill out back there in the afternoon sunlight or a mild San Francisco night.

When I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever really had a bad time at the Gold Cane. I’m sure you’ll agree…
