Java Beach Serves the Sunset

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

When I lived out in the Sunset District back in the day, Java Beach was my favorite hang out. The neighborhood coffee shop serves strong coffee and makes bomb sandwiches. I love the veggie one with avocado and sprouts. They also have the amazing Blondie desert bars. The prices are reasonable – you can get a huge plate of food for about $8. Bagels with fixings  run at about $4. There is typically a line of people ordering, but the service is friendly and the customers are chill. If you live out there you will probably chat it up with the locals while sitting outside on the patio. Come in to warm your bones with a hot chocolate after a long walk on the windy beach. Oh yeah – they have beer on tap too! You can also stop by and grab a pint and watch the sun go down behind the dunes at Ocean Beach.
