Lights, Camera, Auction! Tonight in Carroll Gardens

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

As I inch closer and closer to the big 30, “adultey” things like fixing the toilet seat I broke by standing on it (don’t judge, I’m short and needed to see!) are slowly becoming less “Shit, I have to fix this before dad comes and reminds me he had 4 children by my age and that I should at least be able to handle fixing (insert easy to fix thing that I just don’t want to here)”, and more tasks I actually feel compelled to do.

One of these is decorating my apartment in a way that doesn’t scream “Found on the Street! She might have bedbugs!” so I am heading to Lights, Camera, Auction! Tonight to bid on props, wardrobe, and furnishings hot off the sets of NYC productions that have been rescued from their landfill destinies to be auctioned off at affordable prices to you and me. Proceeds go to charity, and there’s even free Brooklyn Brewery beer, $1 Oaxaca tacos, and curated collections from folks like Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan of Apartment Therapy to boot. The event is organized by Film Biz Recycling.

Jill is an Ohio native and Boston University graduate who refuses to stop saying "pop" and wearing her Red Sox gear despite being heckled for doing so since moving to Brooklyn. She's been honing her thrifty ways since doing that silly thing people talk about when they ignore reason to follow their hearts and chose a career in the fulfilling but faltering music industry. She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
