FREE Book Exchange in NYC!!
Nobody really likes the AM New York Guys. They’re pushy, in your face and most of the papers end up all over the floor of every subway station in the city. But as a regular commuter, I like to have something to read that doesn’t involve sensational rags, blowing all my money The Strand, or crying when the Onion paper box is empty. Sure I could go the library but I bet if you take an informal poll of how many people actually have a library card that aren’t students, you’ll be sorely disappointed. That’s where “Choose What You Read” comes in. This non-profit, underground book exchange encourages New Yorkers to share used books so everyone can reap the benefits. What started as a mere facebook group in London has now jumped the pond and can be found in our very own subway stations.
Distribution is done every first Tuesday of the month at major subway stations. There’s no due dates, or fees and each book contains a purple sticker with their logo. You can also drop off your extra books around the city at Whole Foods in Union Square, KGB Bar, and Revival Bar. Clearing your shelves? You can even arrange for them to pick-up your collection and relive you of that Thomas Pynchon novel we know you’re never going to finish. So it’s time to put the US Weekly down and pick up something that uses your brain cells rather than wastes them.
