The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

An exciting new spot for broke-asses has turned up on the Lower East Side. The Lounge at Dixon Place is now open for business and celebrating its upcoming grand opening with free music nights and a special party. The official grand opening on Thursday, April 8th, will feature music by Amour Obscur, a Weimar-style lounge trio who offer soulful insights into the darker side of love. They’ll also announce the winner of 'œThe Dixon' cocktail contest that night.

The Lounge is open nightly to the public, as well as for pre- and post- theater patrons attending performances in their main theater. Happy Hour in the Lounge (6-7pm, Mon-Fri) features special beer, wine, and well drink prices and a nightly Bartender’s Choice specialty cocktail. Cozy and neighborhood-artist oriented, all Lounge proceeds directly sustain the Dixon Place mission to support artists developing new works of performance including theater, dance, music, and literature, as well as the costs of maintaining the newly opened non-profit theater. Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
