Celebrate Brooklyn at the FREE Funk Dance Party Tonight

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Brooklyn… funk yeah! Grimaldi’s, funk yeah! Beer garden, funk yeah! Bike valet, funk yeah! Dance lessons, funk yeah! OK, I will stop trying to make my own version of the Team America theme song now as a way to tell you about tonight’s awesome Celebrate Brooklyn event.

The newly top-notched Brooklyn Bridge Park is throwing a free party featuring legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker (who’s honed his funky ways with the likes of James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic) and a live set from DJ Spinna. There will be all of the things mentioned above, as well as the official announcement of this summer’s always-whoa-worthy live music series at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Funk yeah! (Sorry, it slipped.)

Jill is an Ohio native and Boston University graduate who refuses to stop saying "pop" and wearing her Red Sox gear despite being heckled for doing so since moving to Brooklyn. She's been honing her thrifty ways since doing that silly thing people talk about when they ignore reason to follow their hearts and chose a career in the fulfilling but faltering music industry. She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
